search nowDr. Rosario Ricalde is a Research Assistant Professor at the National Institutes of Health of the University of the Philippines Manila and is currently serving as the Director of the Newborn Hearing Screening Reference Center. She also holds an appointment as Clinical Associate Professor at the Department Otorhinolaryngology of the Philippine General Hospital.
She graduated with the degree of Doctor of Medicine from the University of the. Philippines Manila under the INTARMED program. She completed her residency training in otorhinolaryngology at the Philippine General Hospital in 2007. Dr. Ricalde went to Institute Georges Portmann of the University of Bordeaux in France for a Clinical and Research Fellowship in Otology, Audiology, and Neurotology. She is a fellow of the Philippine Society of Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery and Philippine College of Surgeons. She has been the secretary of the Philippine Academy of Neurotology Otology and Related Sciences since 2022.
As an esteemed Otorhinolaryngologist with sub-specialization on Otology and Vestibular Disorders, she has delivered seminars and trainings on Assessment and Management of Meniere Disease, BPPV in Meniere Disease, Video Head Impulse Testing, Vestibular Laboratory Testing, Mastoidectomy, Temporal Bone Anatomy, Temporal Bone Trauma, External, Middle and Inner Diseases, Persistent Postural Perceptual Dizziness, Vertigo in the Elderly, Newborn Hearing Screening and Cochlear Implantation in Children. Her current research is on Newborn Hearing Screening Simulation Laboratory and the National Cochlear Implant Program. She has published case reports and original research in local and international peer-reviewed journals.
She received her Medical Degree from the University of the Philippines College of Medicine – Philippine General Hospital. She went to Montefiore Medical Center in Bronx, New York and took two years of fellowship training in Pediatric Otorhinolaryngology.
She is presently a fellow of the Philippine Society of Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery, an Associate Clinical Professor in the Department of Otorhinolaryngology in the UP-PGH, Director of the Philippine National Ear Institute, National Institutes of Health, OIC of the Newborn Hearing Screening Reference Center, Coordinator of the Newborn Hearing Screening Program in The Medical City and She is also one of the Program and Course Coordinators of the Master of Clinical Audiology Program in the UPPGH-CAMP.
A Neurotologist, Cochlear Implant and Neurotologic Skull Base Surgeon, Dr. Chiong is the Director of NHSRC and the Philippine National Ear Institute at the National Institutes of Health Philippines.
She also serves as the Founding Chairperson of the Philippine Academy of Neurotology Otology and Related Science, the General Secretary of the ASEAN Academy of Neurotology Otology and Audiology, the Regional Secretary of the International Federation of Otolaryngological Societies –Southeast Asia Western Pacific Oceania, International Advisory Board Member and the Former Editor in Chief of Philippine Journal of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery.
She is currently the Immediate Past Vice Chancellor for Planning and Development at the University of the Philippines- Manila.
