The Philippine National Ear Institute in cooperation with the Philippine Academy of Neurotology Otology and Related Sciences – Philippine Society of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery will be conducting the following pre-congress courses on November 29, 2015, Sunday:
- Integrated Orientation and Updates to RA 9709 and Category A Newborn Hearing Screening Personnel Certifying Course at the Basic Sciences Lecture Room – East (BLSR-East) University of the Philippines College of Medicine, Pedro Gil Street, Ermita, Manila
- Auditory Brainstem Response Technician Training Course to be held at the Ward 10 ENT Conference Room and The Ear Unit at the 2nd floor of the Philippine General Hospital, Taft Avenue, Ermita, Manila
The Orientation and Updates to RA 9709 is the lecture portion of the Category A Newborn Hearing Screening Personnel Certifying Course and is also a pre-requisite for non-screener or manager staff members of Hearing Centers such as Speech Therapists, Cochlear Implant Programmers, Developmental Pediatricians, ENT Coordinators, and ENT Implant Surgeons.
Orientation and Updates participants are required to bring the following:
- Copy of valid PRC ID for physicians
- Copy of any valid ID for Audiologist or speech therapist
- Copy of Masters in Audiology diploma for Audiologist
- Copy of Speech Therapy / Pathology diploma for speech therapist
- Copy of Residency and Fellowship Training certificates for Developmental Pediatricians, ENT or ENT Implant Surgeon
- Certificate of good standing from The Philippine Society of Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery for ENT Coordinators and ENT Implant Surgeons
- Certificate of good standing from the Philippine Pediatric Society for Pediatricians
- Certificate or letter of center / health facility affiliation / employment signed by Medical Director / head of facility / owner. Exact address and complete contact information of the health facility must be indicated in the certificate or letter.
The screeners and managers of Category A Newborn Hearing Centers will have to pass a written 25 item multiple choice, open notes exam and practical examination with a 12 item checklist. Examinees are required to bring the hearing screening device (OAE or AABR) they are using or a demo unit from the distributor of the exact model being used in their facility for the practical examination. Please charge the device before the course. Take note that only 10 participants may use a common hearing screening device for centers who wish to have several hearing screening personnel certified. Examinees should be prepared to stay in the venue from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm as the schedule for written and practical examination may only be determined on-site.
Category A examinees are required to submit the following:
- Copy of valid ID indicating date of birth
- Certificate / letter of affiliation / employment or copy of BIR Certificate of Registration if owner / physician
For those attending the ABR Technician Course, Category A Certification is not required unless the participant will also perform hearing screening in the same facility. It is possible to take the Category A Course and the ABR Course at the same time. Attendees of the ABR Technician Course may or may not attend the Orientation and Updates to RA 9709 lectures.
ABR Technician Course participants are required to submit the following:
- Copy of valid ID
- Certificate / letter of affiliation / employment or copy of BIR Certificate of Registration if owner / physician
The registration fees are as follows:
- Orientation and Updates to RA 9709 – Php 2,000.00
- Category A Newborn Hearing Screening Personnel Certifying Course – Php 3,500 (Orientation Updates with Written and Practical Examination)
- ABR Technician Course (includes free access to Orientation and Updates to RA 9709 Course in the morning) – Php 5,000.00
